General Studies, Communication Concentration (AA)

Communication is a highly flexible degree program. Oral and written communication skills are among the top skills employers list when asked what they want in new employees, regardless of industry. Students in the communication program at Tusculum have presence and build their communities. They are prepared for job opportunities in a variety of fields, or for continued study. Students who complete the Communication concentration of the Associate of Arts in General Studies are prepared to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Communication in two additional years of full-time study at Tusculum.

Students who choose to pursue other Bachelor programs at Tusculum upon completion will find that this concentration complements their studies in those programs and sets them apart from other job applicants upon graduation.

General Education Curriculum


COMM 220 or SPCH 101 will satisfy both General Education and Concentration requirements.

MATH 140 is recommended for this concentration, as it is required for the BA in Communication.

PSYC 101 is recommended for this concentration, as it is required for the BA in Communication.

University Success Skills


(1 credit)

Communication


Take ENGL 110 (3 credits), ENGL 111 (3 credits), and one course in COMM or SPCH (3 credits) for a total of 9 credits.

Arts and Humanities


Take one literature course (3 credits) and one additional course from either category (3 credits) for a total of 6 credits.

Natural Science


Take one science course (3 credits) along with that course’s lab (1 credit) for a total of 4 credits. 

Behavioral Wellness and Social Science


Behavioral, Wellness, and Social Science:  Choose 2 courses for a total of 6 credits.  No more than 1 course may be from the Wellness category.

Religion


Choose one course for 3 credits - Must be a different religion course if used above to satisfy a requirement in the Arts and Humanities general education core.

Civic Studies


Choose one course for 3 credits.  Must be a different political science course if used above to satisfy a requirement in the Social Science general education core.​
