Nursing, RN-BSN, (BSN)

The RN-BSN track for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing is for students who are registered nurses and hold a valid unrestricted license as a registered nurse (RN). The program is designed to meet the busy needs of the working professional nurse. Course offerings are created so a student can start any semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer) and are delivered online with minimal campus meetings. A student may pursue and attend the program on a full or part time option.

Admission Requirements

Admission criteria for the RN-BSN track are:

  • Meet admission requirements of Tusculum University as a degree-seeking student.
  • Meet the following nursing program admission requirements
    • Earned cumulative college-level grade point average (GPA) of 2.750 or higher,
    • Earned minimum of “C” in all courses and
    • Provide documentation of graduation (transcript) from a Tennessee Board of Nursing approved associate degree RN program or documentation of graduation from a state approved associate degree RN program elsewhere in the U.S.
    • Hold an unencumbered, active Tennessee RN license (or hold an unencumbered RN license from another state and be eligible for Tennessee licensure).
    • Provide documentation of current and prior nursing practice.
    • Submit a College of Nursing application to nursing@tusculum.edu

*Students entering the RN to BSN program will recieve the General Education Waiver.  This may impact the number of credits earned towards the General Education requirement.  

University Success Skills


(1 credit)

Communication


Take ENGL 110 (3 credits), ENGL 111 (3 credits), and one course in COMM or SPCH (3 credits) for a total of 9 credits.

Mathematics


Take one MATH course for 3 or 4 credits.

Arts and Humanities


Take one literature course (3 credits) and one additional course from either category (3 credits) for a total of 6 credits.

Natural Science


Take one science course (3 credits) along with that course’s lab (1 credit) for a total of 4 credits.  

Behavioral Wellness and Social Science


Behavioral, Wellness, and Social Science:  Choose 2 courses for a total of 6 credits.  No more than one course may be from the Wellness categoryStudents must take PSYC 206.

Religion


Choose one course for 3 credits - Must be a different religion course if used above to satisfy a requirement in the Arts and Humanities general education core.

Civic Studies


Choose one course for 3 credits.  Must be a different political science course if used above to satisfy a requirement in the Social Science general education core.​

Additional Major Prerequisites


These course must be completed before core courses can be taken.

Note


NURS 391 - Transition Into Professional Nursing  must be taken the first semester enrolled in the program.

NURS 492 - Professional Nursing Integration Practicum  will be taken the last semester of the program.

Remaining Nursing Courses


These courses will be held in escrow until the RN-BSN student reaches the last semester of coursework.  Once in the last semester, the RN-BSN student will receive credit for the courses indicated below.  Until that point, the students previous coursework will likely show as NURS electives.
