HIST 322 - Modern America Credit(s): 3 This course is an in-depth examination of the principle cultural, social, economic, and political forces of the United States since the early 20th century to the present. Particular attention will be paid to the many dimensions of the Great Depression and the New Deal, the impact of World War II, the domestic and foreign aspects of the Cold War - including the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War, American postwar culture, the empowerment movements, and the rise and fall of modern liberalism and the resurgence of conservatism. Students will explore these topics through various sources, including oral histories, popular culture, and select monographs.
Prerequisites: HIST 102 or HIST 201 or HIST 202 or permission of the instructor. Course Level: Undergraduate
