HIST 336 - The European Renaissance Credit(s): 3 This course considers the Renaissance movement within the broader context of political and economic developments of late-medieval and early-modern Europe. The course will focus on the conditions of 15th century Florence that contributed to the artistic, literary, and philosophical developments of the 15th century. The course will trace the diffusion of the Renaissance across the Italian Peninsula and then to Europe north of the Alps. It will also explore the uses to which the artistic developments of the Renaissance were put, as well as the long-term impact of the Renaissance on European culture.
