HIST 342 - Twentieth Century Europe Credit(s): 3 This course will explore the forces, individuals and the movements behind the dramatic events that shook the continent of Europe in the 20th century. Beginning in the years running up to World War I and concluding with the aftermath of the breakup of the Soviet Union, the course will assess political, social, technological and economic changes affecting Europe. Topics will include the death of the old order, fascism and totalitarianism, war and genocide, social movements, the welfare state, communism and the Cold War and trends for the twenty-first century.
Prerequisites: HIST 102 or permission of the instructor. Course Level: Undergraduate
